In demand nomination of high tech and skilled workers through PNP Ontario

Around 15,303 new immigrants, were nominated through PNP last year Ontario. 

In 2020, 8054 nominated applicants were accessed through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), alongside their spouses and children with a total of 15,303 nominations. With the nomination processed, it helps candidates with their immigration

application supported by the Federal Government, ultimately resulting to their access to the permanent residence.

Initially, the Federal Government had allowed Ontario to only process 7,350  nominations, but by the end of the year, they processed an additional 450 nominations, and around 300 applicants through the NOC C pilot for the low skilled workers. 

Providing enumerate pathways to permanent residency for the foreign workers, the Ontario’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) marks to address the labour market needs. 

Workers in technology-related occupations and skilled proficient trades were been nominated in high nomination numbers through the PNP, as these sectors required high skilled and talents. 

These high skilled with work experience or a job offer in a high-tech , were nominated about 20 per cent, mostly as, 

  • Interactive media developers;
  • IT systems analysts;
  • Technology consultants;
  • Software engineers and designers;
  • Computer programmers. 

More than 1,100 nominations were been issued under the Express Entry: Skilled Trades stream according to OINP.

Out of all these nominees, 43 per cent have adequate intermediate to fluent language skills, 96 per cent hold master graduate degrees and over 48 per cent, of nominees were equipped with a job in Ontario prior to the province nomination. 

Most Ontario nominees were Express Entry candidates

Over 3,499 Express Entry candidates had been nominated through PNP streams in Ontario, namely, 

  • 1,996 Human Capital Priorities Stream candidates;
  • 1,106 Skilled Trades Stream candidates; and
  • 397 French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream candidates.

The Express Entry system has drawn as many immigration candidates to Canada, through  programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, or the Canadian Experience Class.

The Express Entry system is a Federal Government initiative that provides opportunities to candidates by nominated PNPs. Once the candidates are allotted the nominations, they get hold of additional 600 points through Express Entry CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System), this will lead them to apply for a provincial permanent residence. 

Francophones, regional immigration, and entrepreneurs

About 437 nominations  were issued by OINP were to French speakers as it morally targets 5 per cent of all nominations of French Immigrants. OINP achieved their ambition by exceeding with 5.4 per cent of nominations inclusive of high French language proficiency. 

The two-year Regional Immigration Pilot had toned down the easy access to the employers to acquire abroad labour skills, only but this was halted because of the pandemic and the pilot began intake halfway  turn for the year. 

With the total of 150 allotted spaces, over 67 alloted immigration nominations were being provident to the pilot. Ontario had issued their first nomination through Entrepreneur Stream to a compliance the remaining 18 other applicants through. This was expected to get processed by the end of the year 2020.
